Newsletter for January 2006
DENVER ALLIED ARTS
GUILD
January 20, 2005
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GENERAL MEETING:
- 9:30 a.m. - Augustana
Lutheran Church
5000 E. Alameda Ave. Enter through the east door ( south end
of
the bldg.).
Remember ___ 3rd Saturday of the month.
PROGRAM: We will have Mitch Caster, editorial cartoonist for Channel
9.
The media pictures of closed hearings, like the Timothy McVeigh
trial that was moved to Denver from Oklahoma City, are all done by
artists like Mitch. It should be a great demostration - capturing a
person's essence in a short period of time.
NEXT BOARD MEETING:
January 26 - Marion's 9:00
a.m. NEW TIME
NEWSLETTER DEADLINE is the THIRD of each month.
REFRESHMENTS provided by Tony McCrary & Liz O'Connor
February -- Floy Walberg & Carmen Freeman
REVIEW: Mike Keefe
begins his cartoons with rough sketches. He looks
for interesting shapes,
placement, and interesting negative spaces
surrounding his characters. He tries to use action to suggest
movement.
We had not heard
about the creative process in his
2002 appearance
as our demonstrator, so this was more frosting on the cake.
CLUB NOTES:
Eleanor Hargrove fell Dec 28 and fractured a hip. A pin was put in.
She is now at Manor Care getting some therapy. Manor Care is on the
corner of Monaco & Alameda. Cards would be appreciated. If you
decide to visit, call first to be sure she's not in therapy.
Twenty-right folks attended the annual Christmas Party - good food
and good friendship was enjoyed by all. Thanks to all who helped
Marion get ready for the group.
Leftover at Marion's: a plastic tray, a pot holder, and a holly pin
from someone's coat. Claim or have someone
claim for you.
WEB PAGE:
daagonline.com We want & need a wider
representation
of our artists on this site.
It would sure help our Exhibition Chair -
- Eleanor Hargrove as she contacts new venues for our displays. Said
venues often want slides. If Eleanor can refer them to our web
site,
slides can be eliminated. While unframed and non-shrink wrapped
works are preferred, Joyce is going to allow us to bring framed works.
She still needs a call prior to the meeting at which we
bring our works.
