Newsletter for March 2007
GENERAL MEETING: Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 9:30am at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 East Alameda Ave. (This is also St. Patrick’s Day) Remember that we meet on the 3rd Saturday at 9:30am every month except July, August and December.
Your furnished name tags should to be worn to each meeting because if you wear it and your signup number is called out by a guest you win $5! The Hello stick’em tags are only for guests!!! Roland Jones won the $5.00 - there was no raffle.
The PROGRAM will be a demonstration on pastel by Bruce Gomez. He is well known in the metropolitan area as an excellent pastellist and his work can be seen at Abend Gallery and others. And speaking of Abend Gallery - they are having a fund drive to help buy the building they are in. Stop by and see the display of fine artwork by many prominent artists. These works are available for sale at a huge discount and the monies help go for the building fund.
We also suggest that you bring a guest........
Review of last month’s program: Bruce Tilsley was our speaker/demonstrator for the day. He is a retired commercial artist - his company was Graphic Solutions. His demo was in acrylic and he recommended using large brushes and standing back some 10 - 20 feet away from the painting to see what it really looks like. According to him, “you can’t do enough line drawing.” One of his pet peeves is that there is not enough dimension in many paintings. There should always be a center of interest. He had many other comments and tips and hints. When asked where he sells his paintings, he replied that he gives them away. Reporter was Rosemary Weiler.
Where or who has the poem by Millie Wilner that was passed around at the February meeting? - if you find it, call Marion Wright.
Workshops: An idea and questionnaire was passed around at the last meeting and only 10 members (and two guests) commented, etc. And neither myself or Floy received any phone calls regarding future workshops. So as a result of the statistics (or lack of) there will be no more workshops by DAAG this year.
Our web site is www.daagonline.com is up and running with Karl Johnson our webmaster. To set up a member page, update your page, or have new photos taken of your artwork call Joyce Madden at 303-771-2019 and make arrangements. Slides and/or photos can be sent directly to Karl and he will get them online. Be sure to include a short (5 or 6 lines) biographical note. A fee of $25.00 to each member will give that member a page of 6 paintings plus the bio. There are links to agencies, retail outlets (Meininger’s, etc), and organizations. Once your page is up and approved, your $25.00 is due. If you want to change one picture in your web site that is free, any more than that there is a flat fee of $25.00. Karl’s address is 2423 S. Yarrow Way, Lakewood, CO 80227 - phone: 303-980-0501 - email: Karl@colorado-artist.com.

Nominating Committee: Ardath, Joyce Madden and Rosemary Weiler - yes, it is that time of the year to obtain our slate of officers for next year. We need a President and a committee person for Exhibition. We have so far, Vice President - Ann Hanscom; Rec Secretary - Rosemary Weiler; Corr Secretary - Marion Wright; committees: Refreshments - Sally Moore; and Historian - Floy Walberg. So when you get a phone call, try and be positive in your response - remember that this is YOUR club.
• Curtis Arts & Humanities Center exhibit is over and it was well received. Rosemary Weiler, Peggy O’Brien and Thelma Gash sold paintings. Thank you, Rosemary, for obtaining this event and taking paintings and then bring them home after the event for those artists who couldn’t get there.
Montview Presbyterian Church exhibit will be for six weeks starting May 5th. It will be a non-juried exhibit with one painting submitted. Much more info, registration and inventory sheets will be in the April newsletter.
The Board of DAAG has discussed, mulled over and fretted about the idea of raising the dues. After much discussion, the vote is in and the dues now will be $40 per year (starting June 30, 2007) or the option of $50 per year. If you want to give more than the $40, it would be most appreciated. If you can’t pay the dues, talk it over with the President - who will be most understanding.
TV Channel 6 auction: the paintings were picked up and the auction (on TV) will be April 13 - 15 in the art segment.
Denver Botanic Gardens: The Gardens have implemented so many new guidelines this year, it has become prohibitive for DAAG to participate. Two things that we must do to just participate is that we have to pay them a membership fee (depending on the number of members) which would be $150 for us, plus insurance that runs $375 just for this event. This turn of events was thrown at us two weeks ago!!!! That’s just the beginning.......the final result is that we will not participate this year.......next year we will be better prepared.
You need to get your updated resumés (form layouts are available) and photos of at least three (3) of your artwork to Joyce Madden and if you have something for the Historian book you can bring that along and give to Floy Walberg. Our History book is wonderful and if you haven’t taken a look thru it, please do.
REFRESHMENTS for this March 17 meeting will be furnished by Ardath and Marion Wright. In April will be Sharon Hann and Jane Thaden. If you have any questions, you can contact Sally Moore at 303-698-2003.
Deadline for the April newsletter will be April 5.
The next Board Meeting will be at Floy Walberg’s on March 23 at 3:00pm .
