Welcome to the second general meeting of the fall of 2007.

GENERAL MEETING: Our general meeting will be on October 20th at 9:30 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 East Alameda Avenue. We meet on the third Saturday of every month except in July, August and December. Please enter through the east door on Fairfax. Also, feel free to bring your friends to our meetings, and remember to always wear your nametag! If you are wearing your nametag and your sign-in number is called, you will win $5.00!

PROGRAM: This month we are going to have a critique by Jackie McFarland. Jackie is a past president of DAAG. Each member is asked to bring one painting to be critiqued, and the painting needs to be unframed and without glass.

SEPTEMBER PROGRAM: Last month we greatly enjoyed Yelena Sidorova who demonstrated painting on silk. She used special inks, which she spread around on the silk, giving very interesting effects. Some of us bought her paintings, which were beautiful with their rich colors. It was a most interesting demonstration.

REFRESHMENTS: For the October meeting refreshments will be by Ann Hanscom and Thelma Gash. Joyce Madden and Rachel Neubauer will bring refreshments in November.

EXHIBITS: We do not have an exhibits chairman, and we need one badly. We are hoping someone will volunteer to do this job. We could even have a committee of people working together to find places to show and to organize setting up. At present we also do not have any places to show our work, so if you have any suggestions, please let us know.

DUES: If you have not already paid your dues, please do so right away! You can bring them to the October meeting.

BOARD MEETING: The next Board Meeting will be at Marion Wright’s house at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 26. Board members are: President, Thelma Gash; Vice President/Program Chairman: Ann Hanscom; Treasurer, Ardath Baker; Corresponding Secretary: Marion Wright; Recording Secretary: Rosemary Weiler; and Membership Chairman: Sharon Hann. Supporting members are: Historian: Floy Walberg, Refreshments: Sally Moore, and Web Master: Karl Johnson. The Exhibits Chairman position is vacant.

FUTURE PROGRAMS:

November: Yupo demo by Chuck Danford

December: Holiday party (location not yet determined)

January: Card art by Carmen Freeman and two friends

NOTE:  We were saddened to learn that our old friend and past president Philip Perdew died on September 19th. We will miss him so very much.

Joke of the month:

Once there were two best friends, Larry Lobster and Sam The Clam. One day Sam The Clam became very ill and died. Larry Lobster was devastated at the loss of his friend, but he lived many years after before he too died.

When he got to Heaven, he immediately asked about Sam The Clam, and was told that he had not made it to Heaven, and was at a lower level. Larry Lobster asked if he could visit Sam the Clam and was told he could, but there was one provision. If he went to see Sam The Clam he would have to go down on the train carrying a harp, and  would have to bring the harp back  in order to return to his level.

Larry Lobster went to see Sam The Clam, whom he found operating a disco. They had a wonderful time until Larry Lobster had to leave. He and Sam The Clam parted saying they would meet again soon. On the train Larry Lobster suddenly burst into uncontrollable sobs, and when the conductor asked what was wrong, Larry Lobster said, “I left my harp in Sam Clam’s Disco!”
