Happy New Year and welcome to the first DAAG General Meeting of 2008!
GENERAL MEETING: Our General Meeting will be on January 19th at 9:30 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 East Alameda Avenue. We meet on the third Saturday of every month except in July, August, and December. Please enter through the east door on Fairfax Street. Also, please feel free to bring your friends to our meetings, and remember to wear your nametag! If you are wearing your nametag and your sign-in number is called, you will win $5.00!
PROGRAM: Carmen Freeman and two friends Jerry Simpson and Bill Kastan will give us a demonstration on making art cards that are 2 ½ by 3 ½ inches in size. We will all be participating, so please bring pencils, pens, and a glue stick. You can also bring magazine illustrations, poker cards, playing cards, or card stock if you would like. Carmen and her friends will bring rulers and most of the other supplies you will need. She has joined a club that makes business card sized works of art, and they are most creative and beautiful. This is going to be a very interesting program.
DECEMBER PROGRAM: Eighteen people attended the Holiday Party at Marion Wright’s house. We had a fine meal and the Chinese auction went very well.
BOARD MEETING: The Board will meet Friday, January 25 at Ann Hanscom’s house at 3:00.
REFRESHMENTS: Helen Buznedo and Marion Wright will bring refreshments in January. George Schwartz is going to bring refreshments in February. However, we need a second volunteer. Please sign up to bring refreshments with George.
MEMBER NEWS: Please welcome Marcia Williams as our newest member.
EXHIBITS: The Botanic Gardens show will be Sunday, April 13th to Friday, April 18th. Bring paintings between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. and they will be judged at the Botanic Gardens. You may enter THREE framed paintings and the registration form must be returned to Rosemary Weiler by April 1st. The registration form for Framed Works is enclosed in this newsletter. A $5.00 fee is required for each painting. DAAG takes 5% commission for sales and Botanic Gardens takes 25% commission. (NOTE: The registration form for Bin Works and Small Paintings will be enclosed in the March newsletter. )
The Channel Six Art Auction will take place April 12-14. Eight members have signed up for a table, but Channel Six will take as much artwork as we can give them! If you are not one of the eight who signed up and you would like to donate, talk to Marion Wright and get a donor form so you can participate. We will be handing out donor forms at the January meeting. Volunteers from Channel Six will be at the February meeting to pick up the artwork. Please have your donor form filled out and on your painting for when the Channel Six volunteers arrive in February.
WEBSITE: In November members voted to retain the Website (daagonline.com), but we need more people to put their work on it. Only 14 members are exhibiting on this Website and we have plenty of room for more. Each person can exhibit up to six pieces. Give photos of your art work to Joyce Madden or send them to Karl Johnson the Webmaster with a check for $25.00, and he will put them on the Website.
RESUME BOOK: We will have the resume book at the January meeting. If you would like to update your resume or change the photos of your work, please feel free to take a resume sheet and bring it back in February, along with your new photos.
